SPRING COMES BY ITSELF is a Columbia University thesis film written and directed by Noah Namgoong, produced by Yaél Bermudez

Synopsis

Brother and Sister, Jeong and Jueun, have been asked to perform at their mother's funeral.

They arrive 48 hours before the funeral service to prepare their performance.

They will perform seungmu, a Buddhist ritual dance performed within 49 days of their passing to help send the deceased into their next life. Their mother's funeral will take place at Baklimsa, a Korean Buddhist temple in Upstate, New York.

Upon arrival, they meet Sky, a resident layperson who cooks and cleans at the temple. Sky takes an interest in Jueun and Jeong and asks if she can document their rehearsal process by capturing them by way of video interview and photography.

We watch Jueun and Jeong as they prepare to perform for their mother's funeral ceremony, coming to terms with saying goodbye.

Here are some behind the scenes photos from our upcoming film!
